PLAN A TOUR

The Jewish Museum of Florida, heralded as the "jewel of South Beach," serves as a major cultural attraction and source of information for a wide audience of residents, tourists, students and scholars of all ages and backgrounds from throughout the state, nation and world. In one week, we welcome visitors from 30 different countries.

Located in a former synagogue that housed Miami Beach's first Jewish congregation, our Museum's restored 1936 Art Deco building is on the National Register of Historic Places. The building features nearly 80 stained glass windows, a copper dome, marble bimah and many Art Deco features including chandeliers and sconces.

The focal point of the Museum is our core exhibit: MOSAIC: Jewish Life in Florida, depicting nearly 250 years of Florida Jewish History through photographs and artifacts from all over the state. The stories in our Museum abouut Jews who came from diverse lands and helped develop our state while maintaining their traditions are stories that relate to all visitors.

Other Museum features include:

-       Guided tours for all visitors with Museum-trained volunteer docents.

-    Timeline Wall of World, American and Florida Jewish History.

-       Films depicting the Jewish history of Florida and the building restoration;
     stories of four Jewish families who immigrated to Florida and Jewish life cycle and holiday observance in our state.

-       Museum store with a wide range of Judaica items, jewelry, toys, Museum souvenirs, cards, books and more.

-       Collections and Research Center (available by appointment) housing a vast collection of photographs,
     artifacts and oral histories culled from more than two centuries of Florida Jewish families.
